WHAT IS LIKE TO HAVE SIBLINGS!
26-07-2024

My dearest readers,
If you don’t know what is like to have siblings, you are exactly where you need to be… in this article. Some of you might already have a sibling or siblings, some of you are an only child, some of you are going to have a sibling and you need to prepare yourself. On the other hand, some of you might be parents of a child that is going to become a big sibling and you want to know what that would be like. Well…in any case, welcome to this article! My name is Nikoletta and I have a great experience on this subject as a big sister. I have a -1 year younger than me- brother.
I remember very clearly the first time I saw him. I always have this memory of him as the first one in my mind. I was 15 months old so I might be mistaken, but in any case, I have this exact memory in my mind as the first time I saw him. I was in my room when I saw my mom bringing him in my parents bedroom. He was in a blanket and she put him while he was still asleep in his little bed. My mom told me that I shouldn’t do anyting that would make him wake up. My first thoughts were the following: I honestly didn’t like the idea that some weird new little being had taken away my parents. I saw him as some sort of “parents’s kidnapper”, the one that stole my full parents’s attention. After my mom left, I run accros the corridor that seperated my room from my parents’s room. When I approached his bed, he innediatelly woke up. I honestly didn’t do anything, he just woke up and started crying. I was a little scared of how my mom was going to react but it was honestly from the noise that my baby feet caused when I run across the corridor. After that, I remember my mom coming into the room and taking Stelios in her arms to calm him down while I was trying to explain to her with my 15 month old baby language that I didn’t do anything.
As you all know, all siblings fight. They fight all the time about annoying each other, or hurting each other or trying to steal each others clothes & money. That was included in our siblinghood package as well. We all have those moments but that is not my main experience as his big sister. My brother has taught me a lot in my life. He has taught me what a great person someone can be…just like he is. A great brother, a best friend and a work buddy. As the years went by, we were understanding more and more the value of having a sibling that truly cares about each other.
People are different and most of the time that can be challenging when it comes to siblings. Different opinions, different directions and different lives. So, the only way for these different people to honour this blood bond is to be uderstanding and above all…united. So, we never took that for granted and we decided that together we are stronger. We became students to the same Institute to get our Diploma in “Web Development and Programming”, we also became internship work buddies and now with this blog… business partners.
I wouldn’t change him for the world or wished for a different brother. I am very thankful to have him in my life and I could never imagine my life without him! Always honoured and proud of him!
Yours truly,
Nikoletta
