My dearest readers,
Today we are going to talk about Gladiator II. If you are wondering if it is worth it or not, this review is for you!
PLOT
The story follows a young man living in Africa when the Roman army comes to conquer the area. The main character, Lucius, side by side with his wife decides to protect their home by going to war.
During the war, Lucius becomes witness of the death of his wife because of a General named Acacius, who orders to kill her. So, the story begins right here, when Lucius decides to take his revenge having nothing to loose. During his darkest hours, he meets a mysterious man named Macrinus. Macrinus, makes a living by making warriors into gladiators. This mysterious man promises Lucius to help him get his revenge and kill the General if he participates in the arena. Without the woman he loves and being hostage of war, he has to fight for his life and take his revenge by becoming Macrinus Gladiator. As many secrets get uncovered, Lucius realises that Acacius isn’t what he seemed to be and he has to decide if the General deserves to die or not. Lucius identity, is another big surprise for the audience that come across with a shocking truth. Along his journey, many secrets are being uncovered and he has to deal with truths that are hard to accept.
COMPARISON WITH THE FIRST ONE
In my personal opinion, I would say that it is by far a greater movie that the first one. It has great scenes, effects and of course storyline! Gladiator II has a great plot with such lively and emotional moments. They used the same soundtrack with the first movie and that made the connection between them stronger. Compared to the first Gladiator, I felt truly relieved and emotionally healed because of the ending. So, the trauma of the ending of Gladiator I, wasn’t present in the Gladiator II. I don’t say that there weren’t many loses but it is still not the same as killing the main character (Maximus, Gladiator I) !
I loved the fact that the story is the sequel of the Gladiator I and there is this great connection between Lucius and the Roman Empire that noone knew about at first.
It was a few days ago when I went to the cinema to watch Gladiator II and I can honestly tell you that I didn’t have such high expectations. I am happy that I was wrong. So, if you want to watch a movie about survival, revenge and secrets, I highly recommend this one!
