Smallivlle: The ultimate Superman story
SMALLVILLE: THE ULTIMATE SUPERMAN STORY

SMALLVILLE: 10 SEASONS, 217 EPISODES, 2001-2011

My dearest readers,

In this article we are going to talk about the greatest series about Superman’s story. Smallville is a 10 season series with 217 episodes. It is indeed the longest TV series about a superhero’s life. As a big DC fan, I always wanted to learn more about Clark Kent’s story. After watching some episodes I realised that this series was very familiar to me. I used to watch Smallville when I was about 10 years old but after so many years I didn’t even remember that I had seen some episodes when I was a child.

Smallville begins with Clark landing on earth in his ‘scout ship 0344’ & causing a great distraction. In this chaos, a childless couple comes across baby Clark and makes the decision to become his parents without anyone ever know about it. The series makes a time jump and we start to witness Clark living a great life next to his adoptive parents. In fact, his powers, put him in danger all the time because he can’t help himself but to help whoever is in trouble. This is something that creates many problems for him because his identity is at stake every time he exposes his abilities. A drastic impact in his life, is made after saving Lex Luthor, a very rich and dangerous man who at first appears to be a good friend.

Another thing about the series is Clark’s first love, Lana Lang. This love story is the definition of ”right person, wrong time”. We witness a great love but with endless problems. The love story becomes a lovie triangle after some years, because of Lois Lane. A very attractive and dynamic woman who falls in love with Clark Kent. As we know, Clark Kent And Lois Lane will be all time classic and this series proves this to be true. For me, the series was getting more and more uninteresting with Lana making  major mistakes and messing up Clark’s life. This feeling faded when Lois Lane made an appearance. I just couldn’t wait to see them together in each one of the episodes. It was truly a great love story, a healing one. If only their love story had started sooner it would be much better for the plot.

Let’s talk about Clark Kent, my favorite character in fictional world. Smallville’s Clark Kent is the absolute Clark Kent for me. Tom Welling was the one and only that made the character the absolute Clark Kent. I could never be persuaded that there is any other actor that could possibly play Clark Kent better than him.

Clark in the series is a very kind and heartbroken child. He had to hide his abilities and learn how to live with them without anyone ever know, except his adoptive parents. Ecxept for that, – because he was an alien-, he didn’t know how to use his powers, control them or even explain them. In each episode we see a boy that wants nothing but good for everyone. He makes endless sacrifices without thinking what’s the best for him. We watch him being heartbroken by his relationship with his great first love, Lana Lang and spending years trying to be with her.

On the other hand, after so many difficult years, we watch Lois Lane managing to make him happy. At first they have a weird hate relationship as friends. That changes drastically when they become coworkers at Daily Planet. Clark realises every moment he spends  with Lois that she is the love of his life.

As for his arch enemy Lex Luthor, we see Lex becoming a major problem for him because of his psychotic tendencies towards Clark. Clark tries to protect him no matter what. The fact that a good friend of his has become so obsessed with his distraction wears him off and causes him  unbearable pain.  We shouldn’t forget about the aliens that try to destroy him all the time. Clark always believed that the people from his planet (Krypton)  would want to help and support him on his journey on Earth but that wasn’t always the case.

Clark always had many questions about where he came from, where are his parents and what happened to his planet. These questions were answered after years. We see him get disappointed all the time by people and he always tended to blame himself for every bad thing that happened to Smallville and his loved ones. This was a major reason that he couldn’t fully take advantage of his abilities because he always lacked of confidence. He was even afraid of himself because he thought that if he could unlock all of his abilities he might harm someone. So, unfortunately this is one of the reasons that we don’t get to see him unlock his full potential until the end of the series.

For me, if you love supernatural world, this series is a must. It is a great show with adventrure, fantasy, love, drama, action and even some thriller. Personally I loved it so much that I managed to finish watching it in 3 weeks. So you can imagine how good it was that made me complete watching it in such a short period of time!!!

PS: Many years after Smallville’s happy ending, we get to see Clark and Lois living happily together in “Crisis on Infinite Earths”.

Yours truly,

Nikoletta
