My dearest readers,

Today we are celebrating Women’s Equality Day. It was decided from the Congress to celebrate Women’s Equality Day because of the 19th amendment which was certified at 26-08-1920.

At the 26th of August women finally achieved to have the right to vote. This came as a result of an enormous movement about women’s rights such us equality at workplaces, libraries, organizations and of course the right to vote. We should not forget that this movement was one of many that took place in the world that women put themselves in danger for their rights decades after decades. In the past women were treated as a second class citizens compared to men. They had not been entitled the full rights and privileges which were given to men as a birth right. So, women in the United States gathered to make sure that they would be given the rights they deserved.

The President of the United States, Richard Nixon, issued a proclamation in 1972 which defined that day as Women’s Rights Day. This was the first official recognition of the 26th of August. 1 year later, in 1973, the Congress approved this decision and August 26th officially became Women’s Equality Day.
